Department of Physics

Department of Physics

Physics, is the branch of science that examines and offers a logical framework to understand the world around us, focuses on matter, energy, space and time. It is one of the oldest academic disciplines of basic science, which has made significant contributions to our understanding of the numerous physical phenomena all around us. The advances and understanding of this field has been translated into new technologies and new ideas. The Department is engaged in research and teaching frontier areas of experimental and theoretical Physics as per university syllabus. Ever since its inception, excellence in teaching and research has been the hallmark of Department. Over the years, the Department has produced graduates sought by industry, the profession, and the public service as well as providing researchers for the future. The Department has state-to-the-art laboratories with all latest and sophisticated equipments needed to help the students have an experimental insight into the subject as prescribed by the syllabus. Some of the key equipments include Color Digital Storage Oscilloscope, Microprocessor Kits, Spectrometers, LCR Q-testers, Laser Kits, Universal Interferometer, Ultrasonic Grating Experimental Kit with CCD Camera, P-E Hysteresis Experiment Kit, Digital I.C. Testers etc. The Department has introduced both quantitative (problem-oriented) and qualitative (motivational in nature) approach to experiments in the laboratories. Demonstrators are available to help the practical work when the lab sessions are conducted. Objectives To provide education in Physics of the highest quality at the undergraduate level and so produce graduates of the caliber sought by industry, the professions, and public service as well as providing the academic teachers and researchers of the future; To encourage and pursue research of the highest quality in the areas where basic and advanced principles of Physics are used, and maintain BCAS’s position as one of DU’s leading colleges in these fields; To continue to attract outstanding students from all backgrounds; To provide an intellectually stimulating environment in which students have the opportunity to develop their skills and enthusiasms to the best of their potential;
