Department of Zoology at Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences established in 2017 under the visionary guidance of Professor Anil Kumar Bali. The distinguished faculty members, who are both exceptional educators and leading researchers in their fields, have carried forward Professor Bali's legacy with dedication and passion to mentor the next generation of zoologists. Department of zoology is where passion for the animal kingdom meets cutting-edge scientific inquiry. It is a hub of academic excellence, offering a dynamic and enriching environment for students interested in exploring the complexities of animal life.
Currently, Department of Zoology at BCAS offers B.Sc. (H) in Zoology under Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) aimed at providing holistic and multidisciplinary education and a broad-based learning experience.Beyond the classroom, the Department of Zoology offers students numerous opportunities to engage with the natural world through visits to zoological parks, wildlife reserves, research laboratories, and industrial day trips. These excursions are integral to our program, allowing students to observe and study animals in their natural habitats, fostering a deeper appreciation for biodiversity and conservation. In addition, the department also organizes a wide range of extracurricular events throughout the year, including seminars, symposiums, guest lectures by renowned scientists, workshops, short term course, and conferences.
Students of the department are greatly benefitted by various Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by college with reputable institutes and organizations to facilitate summer internships, training programs and student exchange programs. In past the students have undertaken internships and training at reputable institutes such as IIT Delhi, Sri Ram Institute of Industrial research, Lakshya NGO etc. Students also visited Catholicate College in Kerala as a part of student exchange programs, which provided a unique educational experience to students by exposing them to different academic environments and cultures.
Department of Zoology also has dedicated Mentor-Mentee Program, designed to foster strong, supportive relationships between students and faculty members. This program help students navigate academic challenges, creates a nurturing and supportive environment for students and also helping them achieve their full potential academically. It involves tailored strategies to assess and support both slow learners and fast learners, ensuring that each student receives the guidance necessary to excel.
“Eranko” the student society of the Department of Zoology is a student run initiative which provides an excellent platform for students to hone their leadership abilities and inculcate a culture of team work. This society organizes annual academic festival of the college as well as numerous other programs of relevance including symposiums, quiz, seminars, sporting events etc. This initiative enhances team bonding and instils a sense of ownership among students who are leaders of tomorrow.
The relatively young department of college boasts of a promising alumni presence with graduates of the Department of Zoology thriving in a variety of vocations spread across diverse professions, both in India and abroad. The alumni of department continue to excel in various fields such as higher research, academia, management, wildlife conservation, entrepreneurship and more. A strong alumni presence is acknowledged in regular alumni meet ups organized by the department to bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and real world application. These meet ups provide current students with excellent networking opportunities helping them make the right career choice after graduation.
