Phytomics is the Botanical Society of Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences (BCAS), established in 2017 under the Department of Botany. The society was created with the aim of building a vibrant and supportive space where students can explore their interest in plant sciences beyond the classroom. The name “Phytomics” itself reflects this vision, combining “phyto” (plants) with “omics”, symbolising the modern era of integrative and data-driven biological sciences. It represents a shift from studying plants in isolation to understanding them as complex biological systems through approaches such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and bioinformatics. Phytomics brings together students and faculty to nurture scientific curiosity, hands-on learning, and interdisciplinary thinking through activities such as expert lectures, workshops, seminars, quizzes, exhibitions, field visits, and outreach programmes. These initiatives help students strengthen their conceptual understanding and develop practical and research skills. The society also encourages peer learning, collaboration, and leadership, enabling students to take initiative and actively contribute to academic and environmental awareness within the campus and beyond. The society also organises its annual flagship fest, BLOSSOM, which brings together academic and cultural celebrations.
The society’s annual fest, BLOSSOM, is the heart of Phytomics and reflects its spirit of learning through celebration. Every year, Blossom is organised around a meaningful and socially relevant theme and traditionally begins with an expert talk by a distinguished speaker, setting the academic tone for the fest, followed by a range of scientific, cultural, and creative events. All activities under Blossom are conceptualised, coordinated, and led by students, providing them with valuable opportunities to develop organisational, leadership, and teamwork skills. Over time, Blossom has grown into a vibrant academic-cultural festival that encourages students to express their ideas, creativity, and scientific thinking, while also facilitating interaction with experts and peers from different disciplines. The theme for Blossom VI was “Celebrating India’s Green Heritage: Virasat aur Viksit Bharat @2047”, highlighting India’s rich botanical legacy and its role in building a sustainable future. This year, Phytomics proudly celebrates Blossom VII, continuing its tradition of bringing together learning, creativity, expert engagement, and community in a truly enriching and inspiring way.
