The Department of English is one of the founding departments of the college. The English curriculum is impactful and rigorous, encouraging science students for the best interdisciplinary knowledge and outcome. The Department teaches English to students of all courses majoring in the Sciences stream.

From the academic year 2022-23, with the coming of National Education Policy, students can opt for various “Value Addition Course”( like Culture and communication, Reading Indian Fiction in English, Constitution and Fundamental Duties), “Skill Enhancement Course”(like Communication in Everyday Life, Business Communication, Personality Development and Communication), and “Generic Elective” ( like Travel writings, Readings on Indian Diversities and Literary Movements, Individual and Society) courses through the department every semester. The courses offered ensure higher interest and utility pertaining to students of science background, ensuring maximum amount of intake and skill development.

The Department has an exciting co-curricular calendar of varied activities, directed through Capability Enhancement and Literary Club. Frequent invited lectures and interactions with eminent academicians, creative writers and media personnel, all of which are managed by the students of the club and mentored by the faculty.

The college library has a dedicated rich stock of literary and non literary books selected with a great deal of care, over decades, in order to make available a wide range of critical readings to our students. Besides these, the department conducts frequent field trips curated by professional resource persons to augment students' academic learning in classrooms. We also organise multiple workshops and co-curricular skill-building sessions on different themes like creative writing, editing, translation, communication skills, media and publication,etc.
